City Govt Expresses Condolences and Urges Residents to Be Vigilant During Rainy Season

The Jakarta government expressed deep condolences over the death of the Lexus car driver who was hit by a fallen tree on Jalan Metro Pondok Indah Raya, Pondok Pinang Urban Village, South Jakarta, Sunday (10/26) around 2 PM.

The large tree fell down due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that hit the area.

Jakarta Parks and City Forest Agency (Distamhut) Head, Fajar Sauri also paid a condolence visit to the house of mourning on Jalan Bukit Hijau IX/6, Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta last Sunday night.

"On behalf of the Jakarta government, we express our deepest condolences for the tragedy that occurred in Pondok Indah. Hopefully, the family left behind is given strength and patience," he expressed, Monday (10/27).

They facilitate the claims mechanism for compensation claims for the victims' heirs as a form of concern and service to the community.

"The maximum compensation amount provided is Rp 50 million for fatalities, while for vehicle or building damages, it is up to Rp 25 million," he explained.

Distamhut urges the community to increase awareness of the potential for falling trees entering the rainy season, especially in areas with many trees, green corridors, and roadside edges.

"Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds can increase the risk of falling trees," he explained.

Besides pruning and health inspections of trees in Jakarta, they also set up emergency posts for fallen tree handling at the sub-district, city, and provincial levels to improve preparedness for similar incidents.

Residents who are aware of or discover fallen trees can immediately report to the Jakarta Parks and City Forest Agency Post at Jalan Aipda KS Tubun, Central Jakarta, or contact standby officer Mrs. Suriadih (0857-7388-5599). Reports can also be submitted through Jakarta Siaga 112 service or JAKI application.

Field officers have also been prepared to promptly handle any fallen trees in their respective areas.

Claim procedures for compensation for residents who are victims of fallen trees can be submitted via email at distama@jakarta.go.id or directly to the Parks and City Forest Agency at Jalan Aipda KS Tubun No. 1 RT 02/RW 05, Petamburan Urban Village, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.
